Starting at Flores: |
We will meet you at the airport Mundo Maya or any hotel at Flores, El Remate or Tikal. Private transfer to Paso Caballos village 2hrs dirt road from Flores. Time to departure: 8:00am (If you are already at Flores). |
Departure at 8:00 am from Flores by 4WD pick-up trucks or mini-bus for larger groups to the Community of Paso Caballos 2:30 hrs. approx.
10:30 am- Paso Caballos takes a boat across the San Pedro River to Biological Station Las Guacamayas (about 30 minutes). Welcome by the staff of the station and brief presentation of the projects of the station.
01:00 pm - Lunch and free time to rest or to appreciate the various species of birds and endemic plant species Maya Biosphere comprising the gardens of the station.
02:30 pm - Start of the hike in the jungle. The hiking trails is ideal for learning about plants and their uses in traditional medicine, food and utilization of their woods, then will be have time at the lookout "Las Guacamayas" where we can look the sunset and a breathtaking view of the River Wetlands San Pedro Martir.07:00 pm- Dinner and time to live with the staff of the station
08:00 pm - Excursion at Sacluk river, our experienced guide accompanies us on the water ride at night for observation of nocturnal wildlife living here, including the petenero crocodile (Crocodylus moreletii), bats, owls and more.Guest takes the boat to Las Guacamayas. After the lunch we walk along paths where we learn about the flora and fauna of the area, ending the tour at the lookout "Scarlet Macaw" where we will appreciate the sunset and a view of the wetlands in the area.
Evening will take you to this Sacluc river in a boat guided tour here we see a variety of nocturnal creatures who live here, including the Petén crocodile (Crocodylus Morelet), bats, owls and more. Overnight at Las Guacamayas.6:00 am: Jungle morning wake up call

7:30 am: Today we explore the site Perú-Waka is the first place that have a stela with the arrival of visitors to the Maya area from Teotihuacan’s. These monuments are masterpieces of Classic Maya.
2:00 pm - Lunch at the Station
3:30 pm – Leave from the station to Flores.

The expedition is operated by Turismo Aventura (transportation and guide) and the staff at the biological station of Las Guacamayas.
Petén is quite hot most of the year, we can consider that the best season is from December to May. The hottest season is from March to May and June to Nov. is the rainy season.
We recommend doing it from Nov. to May. The trail to El Zotz - Tikal is open all days in the year but in rainy season the routes can get muddy and swampy.
Keep in mind that all your personal belongings will have to be carried by yourself for at least 14 km. Therefore we recommend you to pack as light as possible.
All you will be required to carry is a daypack containing items you will need during the trek (camera, sunscreen, t-shirt, bugs-spray, personal hygienic items, personal first-AID kit etc.).

FootwearJuly, August, September, October, November: Rainy season. The foot-wear for this season is got to be water-proof, rubber-boots are recommended to bring along.
December, January, February (best time): This time of the year is fairly easy so hiking shoes are good enough.
March, April, May and June: This is the dry season so take in consideration that you will put with temperatures between: 90-109 Fahrenheit / 30-38 Celsius.
-Feel free to bring your sandals as well to be used at the camp-sites, although it is important to use the ones with toe-protection.
July, August, September, and October: It is our rainy season therefore all your clothes may get soaked. We recommend you to put two or three sets of clothes in water-proof-bags so you can have dried ones at any time. Rain gear and towels.
November, December, January, and February: This are transitional months, we get affected by cool fronts, and therefore we recommend to bring sweaters and warm-clothes. We recommend you to put two or three sets of clothes in water-proof-bags so you can have dried ones at any time. Rain gear and towels.
March, April, and May: This is the hottest and most humid time of the year, and therefore light-clothes. As we tend to have occasional showers it is recommended to bring rain-gear.
Important: All the above information needs to be taken as guide-line, but since weather is nearly impossible to predict take all the advice possible. Check weather fore-cast.
And don’t forget to bring:Water container always with you, flashlight and batteries, broad-brim or peaked cap, sunblock, insect repellent, toiletries.
You also have to bring a copy of your passport with you on the trek, is preferable to leave the original I a safe deposit box or luggage (at the hotel).
