Yaxha,
is more than an archaeological site, because as soon as
the visitor arrives, its attention is called between the
millenary relics and splendorous green jungle accompanied
with the singing birds and observing the turquoise colour
of the Yaxha and Sacnab Lagoons. Which means Yax = verde
Ha = agua and for Sacnab is Sac = blanco y Nab= flor.
The
so-called Triangle Yaxha - Nakúm - Naranjo, where
you will see the new Mayan cities exhibited to thousands
of visitors. The archaeological site Yaxha is located
in the Herat of the Mayan Biosphere Reserve (RBM) and
declared a Natural & Cultural Monument of the country.
The archaeological
site Yaxha is located to the north of the Department of
Petén, next to two immense lagoons seen from the
top of the main Mayan buildings of that city. One of the
excellent characteristics is the sequence of the roadways
and complex of buildings that mark a North - South axis.
|
From
the lake the Lake roadway ascends that ends in the complex of
the astronomical commemoration; to the extreme North, Blom pathway
begins and finishes in an open plaza with numerous constructions
denominated Grupo Maler located 254 over sea level. This monumental
axis has a total extension of 1100 meters from the lagoon up to
the North limit of the place. The highest building is an enormous
construction with a height of 22 meters, located in the East Acropolis.
Other
important groups constitute the complex of twin pyramids, The
Northeast acropolis, the West Group and numerous plazas. The investigations
carried out, indicate that the place presents an uninterrupted
occupation since the Pre-classic era (600 - 300 B.C.), to the
Pos-classic (900 A. C.), being the Late classic (600 - 800 A C)
the splendour time epoch.
