Monterrico
is a natural reserve located in Santa Rosa Department,
among the Oliveros River, the Chiquimulilla Channel and
the The Palmilla Lagoon. It is to 17 km of Taxisco and
125 kms from the Capital City.
Monterrico
is a nestling refuge for the marine Baule and Parlama
turtles. Located beside the Pacífic Ocean, south
to Santa Rosa Department.

Apart
from representing a great quantity of species in the Reserve,
in the Administration land are reproduction projects and upbringing
in captivity of threatened species that are dedicated for repopulation.
these species they are: Cayman Crocodilus Fuscus (Cayman), Iguana
iguana (green Iguana) and three turtle species Dermochelys Coriacea
(Baule), Lepidochelys Olivaceae (White Parlama) and Chelonia sp.
(Black Parlama), which use the beaches of the Pacific to nest,
for this reason this last project constitutes the flag of the
Reservation project.
The
birds are represented for more than 110 species, residents as
migratory, and with thet they constitute the dominant and most
attractive fauna of the region.
How
to get there:
It is of easy access from the Capital City taking the International
Highway CA-9S. There are bus services toward the pier of La Avellana
village. Then you will cross the channel of Chiquimulilla in small
crafts.
