The
route toward Quetzaltenango on the kilometer 111 is a
deviation that goes by a sheer and narrow highway, to
9 kilometers of Zunil. This serpentine route allows you
to arrive at the Fuentes Georginas, a place where the
visitors can enjoy the plentiful thermal waters, due to
the volcanic characteristics of the region.
Las Fuentes
Georginas are located in the department of Quetzaltenango
to 200 kilometers of the capital city and has an extension
of 1,951 square km. Although the climate of the department
is generally cold, it possesses a warm and humid area
in the low lands. In the summit of the volcanos and higher
mountains the climate is very cold, with temperatures
that oscillate among the 5 to the 15 degrees centigrade.
Their capital is also called Quetzaltenango and is better
known as Xela or Xelajú. Spanish , quiché,
and mam are the spoken languages in this department.

They
are next to the valley and the Samal River . The springs
that sprout there feed a long puddle of crystalline waters.
there are bungalows for rent or you could camp. A tank
of sulfurous waters that invites you to relax and to enjoy
an unforgettable natural atmosphere,
come and experience a warm and sulfurated bath.

By terrestrial route: You can
arrive through the Interamerican highway (CA-1), and through the
Pacific (CA-2) highway. In the first option case, you will arrive
to "Los Encuentros" and then, when arriving to Cuatro
Caminos in the department of Totonicapán, you will go through
the route towards Quetzaltenango. Taking the Pacific highway,
drive through the Palín-Escuintla freeway and then the
signaling is continued towards Mazatenango. Later on you will
meet with a deviation toward Quetzaltenango.
Other
stuff:
There
are cabins on-site, if you would like to spend a night or two.
I believe there are some trails to nearby volcanoes (round-trip
is 6-8 hours for the volcano hikes).
