The Copan Ruins
are located in the western department of Copan, near the
boarder with Guatemala. In Honduran territory, the access
to Copan Ruins is from San Pedro Sula, on the western
highway that communicates San Pedro Sula with Santa Rosa
of Copan and the border city of Ocotepeque. At the height
of 104 km., you will arrive to The Entrada City, Copan.
Make sure not to make mistakes, since an important part
of the department of Copan repeats this name in the names
of its cities. Keep in mind that the Departmental Head
is Santa Rosa de Copan, The Entrada de Copan is a city
and not the entrance to Santa Rosa neither of Copan Ruins.

This
magnificent park, located in the heart of the Copan Village, is
maybe the biggest source of information related to the old Mayan
civilization. The fame of Copan, being the most artistic Mayan
city is well known, and without any doubt, it played an important
part when in 1980 the UNESCO declared Copan a World Cultural Heritage.
Along the whole Valley are vestiges of the great civilization
that flourished and reached their maximum splendour among the
centuries VI at VIII of our era. The excellent and attractive
inheritance that the Mayas of Copan left us is detailed as follows.
The Archaeological Park, (closed for its protection); The archaeological
area of "Las Sepulturas", located to 2 Km of distance
from the main park; "Los Sapos"; the stelaes located
along the Valley and the two museums: The Mayan Archaeology Museum,
located in Copan Ruins' central square and the Mayan Sculpture
Museum located in the visitors centre of the Copan Archaeological
park.
The entrance fee of Copan Archaeological Park and to Las Sepulturas
has a value of $10.00 per person.
The entrance fee to the Mayan Sculpture Museum is $5.00 and the
Archaeology Museum of the town $2.00 for person. The access to
the tunnels Rosa Lila and Los Jaguares has a cost of $10.00 per
person.
